DESCRIPTION:AHIBS Global Dialogue series is back this time proudly featuring Her Excellency Dr. Merve Safa Kavakci\, the Ambassador of Republic of Turkey to Malaysia. \nAt AHIBS Global Dialogue\, HE Dr. Kavakci will speak about the need for a paradigm shift in foreign policy by adopting a humanitarian approach. Her talk will centralize on the Turkish experience as an active actor in the global humanitarian landscape. \nHE Dr. Kavakci is a widely recognized international public figure with legendary political background. She holds a Ph.D in political science from Howard University (2007)\, an MPA from Harvard University (2003) and a BS in Software Engineering from University of Texas at Dallas (1993). \nPrior to serving as the Ambassador\, she was the Founding Director of The Postcolonial Studies Research Center (PAMER) at Uskudar University (2014-2017). She was a Lecturer of International Relations at George Washington University and Howard University in Washington DC (2004-2014). \nShe was elected to the Turkish Parliament\, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey in 1999 as the first Muslim woman with hijab. However she was prevented from serving her term. Kavakci’s political party was closed down by the Constitutional Court and her Turkish citizenship was revoked\, banning her from politics for a period of five years. \nShe took her case to European Court of Human Rights and won in 2007. HE Dr. Kavakci has received various accolades\, among others include the “Georgetown University’s The World’s Most Influential 500 Muslims” (2009)\, “Appreciation for Social Justice” certificate by New York University (2006)\, and “Women of Excellence” by National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and George Washington University (2004). \nShe was also awarded the Public Service Award in Tribute and in Recognition of efforts for the advancement of human rights and Muslim Women’s empowerment by International Association for Women and Children (2000). DESCRIPTION:INTRODUCTION\nA recent study shows that the contribution of process safety to major accidents in the Chemical Process Industry (CPI) is significant and the trend of accident rate has not been decreasing; causing multiple effects of fatality\, severe property damaged as well as pollution to the environment. In Malaysia\, there are laws and regulations that outline the requirements to a proper management of major hazard and non-major hazard installations under the Occupational Safety and Health (Control of Industrial Major Accident Hazards) Regulation 1996. Based on UTM current research\, majority of chemical plant personnel seem not to have a good understanding of the Safety Report\, instead most of them are heavily dependant on the CIMAH Competent Person only. As a result\, the inherent hazards of the chemical processes are not well understood and hazards are not being properly managed. Therefore\, this course is intended to improve the knowledge and understanding of the major hazards\, in regards to the inherent process hazards\, the calculation of risks and the utilization of the finding in the CIMAH report for the preparation in case of emergency. \nOBJECTIVES\nAt the end of the course:\nParticipants will appreciate and understand the legal requirement in major hazards installation.\nParticipants will be able to calculate and verify the risk using the common quantitative risk assessment (QRA).\nParticipants will understand their plant’s major hazards and risks.\nParticipants will be able to utilize the finding of CIMAH report for risk reduction at site. \nTARGET PARTICIPANTS\nCEO\, MD & Management Committee of NMHI and MHI.\nPlant / Utility Managers.\nProcess Designers / Engineers / Technologies Potential CIMAH Competent Persons\, Safety & Health Officers\, Environment Officer. Other people who are interested in PSM.
