Yoshihisa Shimizu is a full Professor since 2007 at Kyoto University, Japan. He obtained his PhD in 1990 from the University of Texas at Austin. His field of interest is environmental engineering, especially in (1) Asian Based and Risk Oriented Integrated Watershed Management with Hydrology, Water Quality, Environmental Risk, and Governance; (2) Characterization of Natural Organic Matter (NOM), and Elucidation of Its Role and Function in the Aquatic Environment; (3) Recovery of Inorganic Nutrients by Urine Diversion/Bio Toilets and its Benefit Assessment; and (4) Development of Physico-chemical Method to Remove Organic Micro-pollutants inn the Aquatic Environment.
He is a member of two global coalitions of researchers – the “International educational and research activities in global environmental studies” and the “Global center for education and research on human security engineering for Asian megacities”. He is the recipient of the Stockholm junior water prize in 2014, and the Japan Water Prize in 2012. He is the President of The Society of Environmental Instrumentation Control and Automation, since 2012, and the Editor for Environmental Science and Technology Journal.
